Year-End Update, Dec. 31, 2007
- ...and
then the holidays came along! Highlights of our search activities since
Nov. 19 included information about Evelyn Wanek, with whom George
Waters had a long telephone conversation shortly after Brody's death.
The forum looked at many Sigrids, since Seka, a presumed Czech with
whom Brody corresponded, might actually be named Sigrid. Two young
women being considered were definitely ruled out as being Anna. Peggy
Walla's handwriting analyses from Brody and Waters' letters were posted.
- I intend to go through the insurance policies, but have not yet done
so. The book Searching for Anna is almost ready to be uploaded.
- Forum members who posted after the previous update include smile22,
cubby, kyresearcher (recovering from surgery), Dr.Doogie, SherlockJr,
Jodibug (expecting baby Laci in March), iNTERESTEDWOMAN, SeekingJana,
raindrops, itsreenw, ASU2USC, Gina_M, annemc2, Mischa (from Germany),
Sable, natasha-cupcake, and MagicRose99.
- Happy New Year from all Anna's family!
November 19, 2007
- I'm
a little late posting this update because we're working hard to meet
the January 16 deadline for the book and I've been wrestling with my part
for three days.
- One of the things I did was to total the views on this
thread: 283,422! And Doogie opened Part 3 of the main thread after Part
2 reached 759 posts.
- Nancy, our Canadian friend, posted a page for Anna
on Facebook.
- Peggy Walla, a highly-qualified handwriting expert,
completed psychological profiles of George Brody and George Waters.
Parts of Brody's profile were posted; Waters' has not yet been put up.
- Posting on the forum this week were Gina_M, SherlockJr,
iNTERESTEDWOMAN, Dr. Doogie, Sable, MagicRose99, christina2448,
smile22, jodibug, Cubby, natasha-cupcake, GraceBlue and Joe Ford.

- The
Forum has been very active this week, looking at one Evelyn Warnick,
with whom Dr. Waters had a lengthy telephone conversation shortly after
George Brody died. MagicRose produced a street map and iNTERESTEDWOMAN
showed names and numbers from a 1970 San Francisco telephone book which
made it look probable that Waters and George Brody were acquainted with this woman,
who ran a health studio.
- SherlockJr contacted a handwriting expert
interviewed on Todd Matthews' show Missing Pieces and asked if she would do a profile
on handwriting samples of Brody and Waters. She has these samples and plans to
make her report (which would include a possible personality profile on
Brody) this weekend.
-
Mandy O'Blenis of the Doe Network made some corrections to her good Web pages on which Anna is featured.
-
Area news reports said that the Santa Clara County's cold case unit is
closing because of budget restrictions, though the bureau has solved 20
old cases. This only serves to point out once again how important your
work is, WebSleuthers. (Santa Clara County is adjacent to San Mateo County, which has jurisdiction in Anna's case; coverage of this story is in Palo Alto Daily News, KRON-TV, KNTV, KTVU, KPIX-TV.)

Posting on the Forum this week were Joe Ford, SherlockJr, GraceBlue,

October 26 & November 1, 2007
- Things
were slow the week following Oct. 19, so I didn't post an update, but
lots has been happening this week. Those of you who are night owls will
want to check the time of the Missing show, which will mention Anna in
its broadcast this coming week.
- The International Centre for
Missing and Exploited Children has now posted Gina's video of Anna on
its YouTube site, which is viewed worldwide.
- June Morrall's Half Moon
Bay Memories has again posted a link to www.searchingforanna.com.
- Anna was featured in a concert on the Squeaky Wheel tour last Sunday.
- SherlockJr contacted Craig B., the last person to see Anna before she
disappeared, and spoke to him at length about his perceptions of Jan.
16, 1973. He was able to pinpoint on a map exactly where he saw Anna.
- Some errors were found on a website, MissingMe, which featured Anna,
and the owner was contacted and asked to make corrections.
- RobinH, who
was our go-between in all the business with "Mystery Woman C", sent
some information about Lloyd's of London insurance policies.
- Several
people have sent self-addressed stamped envelopes for SFA bumper
stickers. Several people have written to Oprah's web site, suggesting
mention of Anna Jan. 16, (our projected date for releasing the book on
Lulu) or on Missing Children's Day (May 25).
- I would like to say something about the National Alliance for
Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD). One of the members of this
worthy group has expressed interest in and sympathy for our story and
has mentioned contacting a documentary film maker to see if Searching
for Anna would be an appropriate subject for a movie.
- AnnasUnc is working out of the country this week. Posting on the
WebSleuths Forum were DrDoogie, Gina_M, GraceBlue, SherlockJr,
MagicRose99, natasha-cupcake, Rhett, mfangel1, Jodibug, fox1950,
iNTERESTEDWOMAN, and Cubby.

- Today
I visited with Arlene, the friend who with her husband and toddler
visited us on the day Anna disappeared. For some reason, I had never
asked her what she remembered from that day. She teared up as she said
“Yes, I do remember.” She and her husband and their 16-month-old baby
drove from San Francisco to Purisima Canyon to visit on Jan. 16, 1973.
She remembered her husband chatting with Anna in the living room and
remembered that Anna had wanted to go outside, and that I had not
wanted her to. She remembered something about a red coat. She said that
on the way home, her toddler had seemed unresponsive to her and she was
worried about him. Possibly because of this, she does not recall
anything about the traffic and does not remember seeing the white van
which a later visitor mentioned. She doesn’t remember anything unusual
about the drive down the country road and up the Coast Highway to the
city. She believes they were driving an old Mercedes her husband had
fixed up. An hour or two after they arrived home, she had a call from S, our
neighbor at the farm, saying that Anna was missing and asking if Arlene
would check her car to make sure Anna hadn’t hidden in the car. Though
it seemed unlikely if not impossible, Arlene said, she checked the car,
almost hoping that Anna had hidden away and that she would find her. “I remember how upset you were when you found that she didn’t wear her
coat,” Arlene said. Her husband (now ex) rented a wetsuit and came back
the next day to go
through the creek. He spent several days with other divers, searching
Purisima Creek.
- The Searchingforanna.com bumper stickers have arrived, courtesy of
SherlockJr, and anyone who sends a self-addressed business-size stamped
envelope (first class, 41 cents) to Annasmom, Box 370462, Montara, CA
94037, may have one for free.
-
Doogie and I are working toward meeting our deadline for publishing the
book, Searching for Anna, with Lulu. SherlockJr has heard from another
adoptee she helped reunite with her birth parents.
- Posting on
WebSleuths this week were Dr.Doogie, laini, PaulaKay, SherlockJr,
GraceBlue, Cubby, Gina_M, browneyedgirl, mfangel1, mysteriew and

- June Morrall has posted another bit about Anna with pictures on her halfmoonbaymemories.com Web
site.
- Doogie and SherlockJr are following up on two suggestions made
through their MySpace sites.
- Two individuals have contributed to
the Lulu fund (established to cover the start-up expenses for publishing the book through lulu.com). Doogie is making headway on the last part of the
manuscript. We hope to have everything in place before Jan. 16 (the 35th anniversary of Anna's disappearance), so I am
reminding you to write to Oprah if you have not already done so.
- Posting on the Forum this week were Cubby, smile22, GraceBlue,
AnnasUnc, MagicRose99 and DrDoogie.
